nocturnes

“I live not in myself, but I become portion of that around me.”– Lord Byron.

These landscapes are an inquiry into the relationship between place, the self and identity. I am interested in the juncture between objective camera and subjective photographer in the memorialisation of time and place. By documenting Brisbane with my 1930s Kodak folding camera the work develops with idiosyncratic serendipity. My fascination with using an old, technologically imperfect camera came about from my boredom of digital’s sterile imagery along with the excitement of how (and if) the camera recorded that moment, imbuing the photograph with its own presence.
